Best of Brisbane: Your Inside Guide to Visiting Brisbane

March 2025

Whether you're a nature lover, a foodie, or seeking adventure, Brisbane - the capital city of Queensland, has something for everyone. If you’re staying for a day or a week, these must-see adventures will help you get the most out of your time here.

First let’s tick off those bucket list items!

1. Southbank Parklands

Set on the southern bank of the Brisbane River, this iconic stretch overlooks the high rise buildings of the CBD. Make sure to take a stroll along the promenade and take in all the sights, perfectly manicured gardens, and for a photo opp check out the giant Brisbane letters at the western end. Southbank is as pretty as a post card and a must when visiting Brisbane. If you are travelling with children bring your togs and towel and enjoy the free man-made Streets Beach. Or enjoy a cold one and lunch at one of the many pubs and restaurants. A favourite of mine is the popular Plough Inn. To find out more visit What’s on Southbank. Parking around Southbank is mostly metered, with paid car parking available. To save on parking you’re best bet is to hop on a train into South Brisbane station, or even better, catch a City Cat ferry for a view from the river. The Brisbane council operates the City Hopper, a free ferry service. The easiest way to navigate public transport timetables and stops is via the Translink Journey Planner. Just enter your to and from location and the site will provide a number of public transport options and maps.

2. Mt Coot-tha

You’ll need a full day to fully appreciate all Mt Coot-tha has to offer. Make sure to take a scenic drive to the summit for breathtaking panoramic views of the city skyline and surrounding hinterland. The are a multitude of bushwalking tracks and stunning botanic gardens for the perfect picnic spot. Mt Coot-tha is a short drive, approximately 7km north west from the Brisbane CBD. For more information including walking track maps visit Mt Coot-tha Precinct.

3. Brisbane River Cruises

Brisbane really is magnificent to see from a cruise boat. There are some great afternoon and sunset boat tours available. My suggestion would be to hop on a City Cat and do a return loop of the Brisbane River for just 50cents. The City Hooper is also great and free but much slower than a City Cat. For the wind in your hair feeling you can’t beat Brisbane’s City Cats.

4. Kangaroo Point Cliffs

Another one of Brisbane’a iconic landmarks in the Kangaroo Point Cliffs. With some of the best views, it’s free, and arguably one of the best picnic spots in Brisbane. It's even more spectacular at night.

4. XXXX Brewery Tour

As iconic as the bin chicken (aka ibis bird), is the XXXX brewery. You can take a tour and have lunch and soak up what makes this city so unique. While there are many craft beer micro breweries around town, the XXXX is probably the most iconic (in my opinion).

Where to eat?

1. Eat Street Northshore

Treat your taste buds to a culinary adventure at Eat Street Northshore, Brisbane's bustling night market showcasing an eclectic array of international cuisines, gourmet street food, and artisanal delights. With live music, vibrant atmosphere, and waterfront views, it's the perfect spot for a memorable dining experience. A short drive, approximately 8km north east of Brisbane CBD.

2. Howard Smith Wharves

Dine in style at Howard Smith Wharves, a revitalized riverside precinct featuring a diverse range of restaurants, cafes, and bars housed in heritage-listed buildings. Sip on craft beers or cocktails, and soak in panoramic views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge. Great for adults and families alike, with its public green space for picnics, bean bags with a view, and playgrounds for children. Getting there is best via public transport.

3. Other Foodie Hotspots

Explore Brisbane's thriving food scene by visiting local hotspots like James Street in Fortitude Valley, known for its trendy cafes and gourmet eateries, or Fish Lane in South Brisbane, a vibrant laneway lined with boutique bars and eateries serving up innovative cuisine. For hands down the best fish n chips, make a day of it and visit Bribie Islands Crab Pot. With its white sandy beaches walking distance, make sure to add Bribie Island to your itinerary.

Where to Stay?

1. Crystalbrook Vincent

For a truly amazing stay, I recommend the Cystalbrook Vincent hotel. 5 star accommodation located under the Story Bridge, overlooking the buzzing Howard Smith Whaves. But don't take my word for it, check out the insta-worthy rooms and facilities for yourself.
